Joachim Cuthbert Mumba is a Zambian born and trained social worker as well as social work Ubuntu practitioner. He has well over 20 years of experience working in diverse fields of social work practice with international non-profit advocacy and development organizations.
His interest over the years has been in humanitarian response, children’s rights, social accountability through local level advocacy and HIV & AIDS community led prevention initiatives. He has also spent part of his professional career in supporting the Government of the Republic of Zambia strengthening the social welfare workforce for improved child protection outcomes as Social Welfare Advisor.
He is the founding member of the Social Workers’ Association of Zambia and has been its Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer since 2005. He is also a part-time lecturer of social work at the University of Zambia. Before taking office as IFSW President he served as Africa Regional Representative on the IFSW - Global Ethics Commission as well as on the IFSW executive as Vice President for Africa region.
Mr Mumba has brought to these roles a passion for sharing knowledge and that all regions and cultures are represented equally. In his opening keynote address Mr Mumba will speak to the contributions made by social workers in his own region and of essential role of social work in every region.
As the African proverb goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together” his rallying philosophy is that of co-creating in order not to leave anyone behind.
