Abstract
Immigrant integration policies are challenged by the constraints of the nature of low density territories. This is a qualitative and exploratory study, based on documentary resources and on the application of a questionnaire survey to municipal representatives of three sub-regions of the Alentejo. The results reveal that there is still a way to go locally regarding integration policies, although in recent years they have taken higher flights towards the expansion of national strategies.Social Work can contribute locally in this sense, since Social Work has a commitment to social inclusion and the promotion of equal opportunities (Associação dos Profissionais de Serviço Social [APSS], 2019).
